Abstractions

I majored in visual design at Auburn because I was planning a career in advertising.  Since good design is the backbone of painting, the transition from being a graphic designer/illustrator was an easy one.

In my landscape paintings, whenever I lost sight of the elements of design, I would return to my roots and create abstractions to ground myself. Over the years, I have begun to enjoy these images on their own merit as a way to express ideas intuitively.

Lately I have incorporated collage and printmaking into these paintings and find that “putting the pieces together” is a metaphor for this time in my life.
